Session 1 - Foundation of Shapes
Students will learn how to break down complex subjects to better understand how to approach making them with shapes. Learning basic shapes is the first step in learning the visual language of artists. Students will be introduced on how to recognize and breakdown complex subjects in order to better understand how to approach the drawing process. In this session, I will use God’s Creation process in Genesis 1 to teach shapes & form.
Session 2 - Using Reference
In art, studies are often used to understand the problems involved in rendering subjects amongst other things. Students will learn a method to draw that will accelerate their ability to create without the use of reference. We’ll use reference and then learn to draw without it. In this session, Students will learn to draw a whale while tying it to the conversation of Jonah being swallowed by a Whale.
Session 3 - Lights & Shadows
Session 4 - Importance of Line Weight
Line Weight is referred to as the strength of your lines. When rightly applied, it makes drawings appealing, enables lights and shadows, and keeps something from appearing bland. In this session, we’ll go over drawing animals commonly shown in scripture, like horses and birds, to apply this knowledge.
Session 5 - Character Silhouettes
Ever look at an image that is filled with a black color but you can still make out who it is? Mickey Mouse’s body is easily recognizable because of his features, and the point of this exercise is to learn how to create characters that are recognizable even if all of the detail is missing.
Session 6 - Dynamic Movement & Gestures
To close the class, we’ll dive into a more advanced topic of adding a sense of movement to our characters. This session will be an introduction into the more advanced course after this one.
